Saudade

Saudade

It’s been more than 5 years since Deez Nuts released You Got The Fucked Up. With Saudade a different band is dropping an album into a world that has radically changed. Singer JJ Peters and guitarist RealBad are now accompanied by ApolinĆ”rio ā€œPoliā€œ Correia (Devil In Me, Sam Alone and The Gravediggers, Portugal) and Jesse Labovitz (No Warning, Canada) which makes their line-up even more international than before. Friendship is still key to this group of misfits: ā€œThis is the line-up that instantly felt in sync live and we hoped that would translate to the studio and it didā€, says JJ Peters. ā€œAlso, both of their history in music and writing abilities in their respective bands brings new flavours/textures to DN’s sound.ā€

It is also album number four produced by Andre Neufeld (Comeback Kid, Sights and Sounds). JJ Peters adds: ā€œAside from being one of our closest and dearest friends and a respected colleague, he has become essential to our recording process.ā€ In January of 2025 the group of old friends came together at Eyeball Studios in Portugal where the album was written and tracked from scratch in under a month, then mixed and mastered by Jon Markson in Brooklyn. Recording in Portugal and sharing some profound memories from the past had an impact on the album title, ā€œSaudadeā€: Saudade is a Portuguese and Galician term that describes a deep emotional state of melancholic longing for someone or something that is absent. It originates from the Latin word for solitude. This feeling is often linked with the understanding that the object of longing might never come back again. The word Saudade covers memories of feelings, experiences, places, or events that evoke a sense of separation from the joy they once
brought. While Deez Nuts used to represent infamous, hedonistic lyrics these have shifted to highly personal ones telling stories mainly from the past five years.
